VILLA TAMARA

Hi Elisabeth,

This is Donna Sandello...sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I finally wrote that review for Villa Tamara in Tuscany.

Our trip to Tuscany was our best family vacation yet. Villa Tamara met every expectation we had and more. Everything about it was beautiful, from the villa itself to the surrounding landscape and unbelievable views. I wouldn't have stayed anywhere else. The terra cotta/stone facade was so pretty and the inside rooms were spacious--the whole place is much larger than the pictures suggested (there is a large living room with couches and an outside terrace on the 2nd floor, in addition to the one on the 1st floor). The pool area was equally impressive -- it's set back from the villa down a little path with flowers & gardens, so it was very private. The kidney shaped pool was a good size and the surrounding patio was well landscaped with umbrellas and lounge chairs. The most spectacular part of being at the pool is the view (which can be seen from the bedroom windows inside the villa as well)...the rolling hills of Tuscany stretched on and on in every direction. Sunsets over! the hills were ABSOLUTELY MAJESTIC. I can't tell you how peaceful and awe-inspiring the landscape was, both day and night. Living right in the middle of such a beautiful setting is one of the things I miss most about Tuscany now that I am home. (My computer's wallpaper is set to a picture I took of that view so I can still look at it everyday).

There is no question that Villa Tamara is an amazing property. The other feature of the villa, however, was equally impressive--the family that owns it! On our first night there, Tamara cooked a real Italian supper for us, including 7 courses of food that left us FULL and very satisfied. Tamara is like your own personal Italian grandma taking care of you, such a sweet woman. She doesn't speak a lot of English but is willing to try and communicate as much as she can! Her son, Ricardo, speaks fluent English and is EXTREMELY helpful if you want suggestions, information on the area, or just need to work out logistical things like directions. He is very personable and easy to talk to, very accommodating. The nice part about the family is that they live on-site (in a smaller "guest house" tucked away on the other side of the driveway) but they respect your privacy completely -- when you need them, they are there, but they never intrude. We actually didn't even realize they were li! ving there until we tried knocking on their door one day.

I can't say enough about Villa Tamara. We loved staying there and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. The villa is not listed on many popular rental websites, so it's really a hidden gem if you find it! I can't wait to go back.
